UNDERSTANDING THE Cost of Smile Makeover IN MELBOURNE: What to Expect and Budget For

When you’re considering transforming your smile in Melbourne, understanding the costs involved is crucial for making an informed decision. A smile makeover isn’t just about aesthetics – it’s an investment in your confidence, professional success, and overall quality of life. The cost of smile makeover treatments in Melbourne varies significantly based on your specific needs, chosen procedures, and the clinic you select.

Melbourne’s dental landscape offers diverse pricing structures, with treatments ranging from simple teeth whitening procedures starting at $300 to comprehensive full mouth reconstructions costing upwards of $50,000. Most patients find their ideal smile transformation falls somewhere between $5,000 and $25,000, depending on the complexity of their case and the number of procedures required.

The beauty of modern cosmetic dentistry lies in its customizable approach. Your smile makeover journey begins with a comprehensive consultation where your dentist will assess your current oral health, discuss your aesthetic goals, and create a personalized treatment plan. This individualized approach means costs can vary dramatically from patient to patient, even for similar-looking results.

Factors Influencing Your Smile Makeover Investment

Several key factors determine the final cost of your smile makeover in Melbourne. Understanding these variables helps you budget appropriately and make informed decisions about your treatment options.

Current oral health status: Patients with existing dental issues like gum disease, tooth decay, or structural problems will need preliminary treatments before cosmetic procedures can begin. This foundational work, while essential, adds to the overall investment.

Number of teeth requiring treatment: A smile makeover might focus on just the front six to eight teeth visible when you smile, or it could involve your entire mouth. More teeth naturally mean higher costs.

Chosen procedures and materials: Premium materials like high-grade porcelain veneers cost more than composite alternatives, but they also last longer and provide superior aesthetics.

Dentist expertise and reputation: Highly experienced cosmetic dentists with specialized training and proven track records typically charge premium rates for their services.

Clinic location and overhead: Melbourne CBD practices often have higher operating costs than suburban clinics, which can be reflected in their pricing structure.

Technology and techniques used: Clinics investing in cutting-edge technology like digital smile design, laser dentistry, or advanced imaging systems may charge more for the enhanced precision and results these tools provide.

INDIVIDUAL PROCEDURE COSTS BREAKDOWN

To help you understand potential costs, here’s a detailed breakdown of individual smile makeover procedures commonly performed in Melbourne CBD and Noble Park North locations.

Teeth Whitening Solutions

Professional teeth whitening remains one of the most popular and cost-effective smile enhancement procedures. In Melbourne, you have several whitening options, each with different price points and effectiveness levels.

In-office professional whitening: $400 – $800 per session. This procedure delivers immediate results, often lightening teeth by 3-8 shades in a single appointment. The higher cost reflects the stronger bleaching agents used and professional supervision throughout the process.

Take-home professional kits: $300 – $600. These custom-fitted trays with professional-grade whitening gel offer convenience and gradual results over 1-2 weeks. Many patients prefer this option for its flexibility and gentler approach.

Combination treatments: $600 – $1,200. Some clinics offer packages combining in-office and take-home treatments for optimal results and maintenance.

The longevity of whitening results varies based on lifestyle factors like coffee consumption, smoking, and oral hygiene habits. Most patients need touch-up treatments every 12-18 months to maintain their bright smile.

Porcelain Veneers Investment

Porcelain veneers represent the gold standard in cosmetic dentistry for transforming tooth shape, size, color, and alignment. These ultra-thin shells of medical-grade porcelain are custom-crafted to fit your teeth perfectly.

High-quality porcelain veneers: $1,200 – $2,500 per tooth. Premium veneers made from superior porcelain materials and crafted by master ceramicists command higher prices but offer unmatched aesthetics and durability.

Standard porcelain veneers: $800 – $1,500 per tooth. These veneers provide excellent results at a more accessible price point, suitable for most patients seeking smile transformation.

Composite veneers: $300 – $800 per tooth. While less expensive, composite veneers have a shorter lifespan and may not achieve the same level of translucency as porcelain options.

Most smile makeover patients require 6-10 veneers to achieve their desired results. A typical front teeth veneer treatment ranges from $6,000 to $20,000, depending on the number of teeth and material quality chosen.

Dental Implant Restoration

For patients with missing teeth, dental implants provide the most natural-looking and functional replacement option. While implants represent a significant investment, they’re designed to last a lifetime with proper care.

Single dental implant: $3,000 – $6,000. This includes the titanium implant, abutment, and crown. Premium implant systems and specialized procedures may increase costs.

Implant-supported bridge: $8,000 – $15,000 for replacing 3-4 teeth. This option is more cost-effective than individual implants when multiple adjacent teeth are missing.

Full mouth implant restoration: $25,000 – $50,000. Comprehensive solutions like All-on-4 or All-on-6 implant systems provide complete tooth replacement for patients with extensive tooth loss.

Additional procedures like bone grafting ($500 – $2,000) or sinus lifts ($1,500 – $3,000) may be necessary for patients with insufficient bone density, adding to the overall treatment cost.

Orthodontic Treatment Options

Straightening crooked or misaligned teeth is often a crucial component of smile makeover treatments. Melbourne offers various orthodontic solutions to suit different budgets and lifestyle preferences.

Invisalign clear aligners: $4,000 – $9,000. The virtually invisible alternative to traditional braces appeals to adults seeking discreet tooth straightening. Treatment duration typically ranges from 6-24 months.

Traditional metal braces: $3,000 – $7,000. While more visible, metal braces remain highly effective for complex orthodontic cases and often achieve results faster than clear aligners.

Ceramic braces: $4,000 – $8,000. These tooth-colored braces offer a compromise between effectiveness and aesthetics, making them popular among image-conscious patients.

Lingual braces: $8,000 – $12,000. Attached to the back of teeth, lingual braces are completely invisible but require specialized expertise and longer treatment times.

Orthodontic treatment duration varies from 6 months for minor corrections to 3 years for complex cases. Most patients see significant improvements within 12-18 months.

COMPREHENSIVE SMILE MAKEOVER PACKAGES

Many Melbourne dental practices offer comprehensive smile makeover packages that combine multiple procedures at discounted rates. These packages often provide better value than purchasing individual treatments separately.

Basic Smile Enhancement Packages

Whitening and cleaning package: $500 – $1,000. Includes professional teeth cleaning, polish, and in-office whitening treatment. Perfect for patients with healthy teeth seeking a brighter smile.

Minor correction package: $2,000 – $5,000. Combines teeth whitening with minor cosmetic bonding or contouring to address small chips, gaps, or irregularities.

Confidence boost package: $3,000 – $8,000. Features professional whitening, gum contouring, and composite bonding for visible front teeth improvements.

Comprehensive Transformation Packages

Hollywood smile package: $8,000 – $20,000. Includes 6-10 porcelain veneers, professional whitening, and gum contouring for a complete front teeth transformation.

Full mouth restoration: $15,000 – $35,000. Comprehensive treatment addressing both upper and lower teeth with a combination of veneers, crowns, implants, and orthodontics as needed.

Executive smile makeover: $20,000 – $50,000. Premium package featuring the highest quality materials, advanced procedures, and often includes maintenance treatments for the first year.

These packages typically include consultation fees, digital smile design, temporary restorations during treatment, and follow-up appointments. Many practices offer flexible payment plans to make these comprehensive treatments more accessible.

LOCATION-BASED PRICING DIFFERENCES

The location of your chosen dental practice significantly impacts smile makeover costs in Melbourne. Understanding these geographical pricing variations helps you make informed decisions about where to receive treatment.

Melbourne CBD Premium Pricing

Melbourne CBD dental practices typically charge premium rates due to higher operating costs, prime real estate expenses, and the convenience factor for busy professionals. CBD clinics often cater to executives and professionals who prioritize convenience and are willing to pay more for central locations.

Overhead costs: CBD rent, parking, and staffing costs are significantly higher than suburban areas, directly impacting treatment pricing.

Convenience premium: Many patients pay extra for the ability to schedule appointments during work breaks or lunch hours.

Prestige factor: Some CBD practices position themselves as luxury providers, offering premium amenities and concierge-style service.

Expect to pay 15-25% more for smile makeover treatments in Melbourne CBD compared to suburban practices. However, this premium often includes benefits like extended hours, priority scheduling, and luxury clinic environments.

Noble Park North Value Options

Suburban practices like those in Noble Park North often provide excellent value for smile makeover treatments without compromising on quality. These clinics benefit from lower overhead costs, allowing them to offer competitive pricing while maintaining high treatment standards.

Cost advantages: Lower rent, reduced parking costs, and competitive staffing markets allow suburban practices to offer more affordable treatments.

Community focus: Suburban dentists often build long-term relationships with local communities, prioritizing patient satisfaction and word-of-mouth referrals over premium pricing.

Accessibility: Easier parking and public transport access can offset the additional travel time for some patients.

Noble Park North and similar suburban areas typically offer smile makeover treatments at 10-20% below CBD pricing while maintaining comparable quality and outcomes. This makes suburban practices attractive for cost-conscious patients who don’t require CBD convenience.

FINANCING AND PAYMENT OPTIONS

Understanding available financing options is crucial for making smile makeover treatments accessible to patients across different economic situations. Melbourne dental practices offer various payment solutions to help spread treatment costs over manageable periods.

In-House Payment Plans

Many dental practices offer flexible in-house payment plans that allow patients to spread treatment costs over 6-24 months. These arrangements often feature little to no interest charges, making them attractive alternatives to traditional financing.

Interest-free periods: Some practices offer 6-12 month interest-free payment plans for treatments over $2,000, helping patients manage cash flow without additional charges.

Extended payment terms: Larger treatments may qualify for extended payment periods up to 24 months, though interest charges typically apply after the initial interest-free period.

Deposit requirements: Most payment plans require a deposit of 20-50% of the total treatment cost, with the remainder spread over the agreed payment period.

Third-Party Medical Financing

Several specialized medical financing companies operate in Australia, offering loans specifically designed for healthcare and cosmetic procedures. These options provide access to larger amounts and longer repayment terms.

Medical credit cards: Specialized credit cards for healthcare expenses often feature promotional interest rates and extended payment terms for qualified applicants.

Personal loans: Banks and credit unions offer personal loans that can cover smile makeover costs, with interest rates based on creditworthiness and loan terms.

Buy now, pay later services: Some practices accept popular BNPL services for smaller treatments, though these typically have shorter repayment periods and lower limits.

Insurance Considerations

While most smile makeover procedures are considered cosmetic and not covered by standard dental insurance, some components may qualify for partial coverage if they address functional issues.

Restorative elements: Procedures that restore damaged teeth or improve function may receive partial insurance coverage, reducing out-of-pocket costs.

Pre-treatment requirements: Necessary treatments like root canals, extractions, or periodontal therapy before cosmetic procedures may be covered by insurance.

Annual maximums: Most dental insurance plans have annual maximums of $1,000-$2,500, which may cover a portion of larger treatment plans.

It’s essential to verify coverage with your insurance provider before beginning treatment and understand what portions of your smile makeover may qualify for benefits.

HIDDEN COSTS AND LONG-TERM CONSIDERATIONS

When budgeting for smile makeover treatments, it’s important to consider potential additional costs and long-term maintenance requirements that may not be immediately apparent in initial treatment quotes.

Pre-Treatment Requirements

Many patients require preliminary treatments before cosmetic procedures can begin. These foundational treatments, while essential for long-term success, add to the overall investment.

Periodontal treatment: $200 – $2,000 depending on severity. Gum disease must be treated before cosmetic procedures to ensure long-term success.

Root canal therapy: $800 – $1,800 per tooth. Teeth with nerve damage require root canal treatment before receiving crowns or veneers.

Extractions: $150 – $600 per tooth. Severely damaged teeth may need removal before implant placement or prosthetic work.

Bone grafting: $500 – $2,000. Patients with bone loss may require grafting procedures before implant placement.

Ongoing Maintenance Costs

Smile makeover treatments require ongoing maintenance to preserve their appearance and function. Understanding these long-term costs helps with realistic budgeting and treatment planning.

Professional cleanings: $150 – $300 every 6 months. Regular maintenance visits are crucial for preserving cosmetic work and preventing complications.

Whitening touch-ups: $200 – $400 annually. Professional whitening results fade over time and require periodic refreshing.

Replacement costs: Veneers, crowns, and other restorations have finite lifespans and will eventually need replacement. Porcelain veneers typically last 10-20 years, while crowns may last 15-30 years.

Orthodontic retainers: $200 – $800. Patients who undergo orthodontic treatment need retainers to maintain their results, with periodic replacements necessary.

Emergency and Complication Costs

While complications are rare with modern dental techniques, it’s wise to budget for potential issues that may arise during or after treatment.

Temporary restoration repairs: $100 – $400. Temporary crowns or veneers may occasionally need adjustment or replacement during treatment.

Sensitivity treatments: $50 – $300. Some patients experience temporary sensitivity requiring additional treatments or medications.

Adjustment appointments: $100 – $300. New restorations may require fine-tuning for optimal comfort and function.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT PRACTITIONER FOR VALUE

Selecting the right cosmetic dentist significantly impacts both the cost and quality of your smile makeover. While price is an important consideration, focusing solely on the lowest cost can lead to disappointing results and additional expenses down the road.

Evaluating Dentist Credentials and Experience

A dentist’s qualifications, training, and experience directly correlate with treatment outcomes and long-term success. Investing in an experienced practitioner often provides better value despite higher upfront costs.

Specialized training: Look for dentists with advanced training in cosmetic dentistry, prosthodontics, or aesthetic dental programs. This specialized education commands higher fees but typically delivers superior results.

Professional memberships: Membership in organizations like the Australian Society of Cosmetic Dentistry or similar professional bodies indicates commitment to continuing education and industry standards.

Portfolio and testimonials: Review before-and-after photos and patient testimonials to assess the quality and consistency of the dentist’s work.

Technology and techniques: Dentists investing in modern technology and staying current with latest techniques may charge more but often provide more predictable and aesthetic results.

Getting Multiple Consultations and Quotes

Obtaining consultations from multiple practitioners provides valuable perspective on treatment options, costs, and approaches. Most Melbourne dentists offer free initial consultations for smile makeover treatments.

Treatment plan variations: Different dentists may recommend varying approaches to achieve similar results, with corresponding cost differences.

Material options: Some practitioners offer more material choices and price points, allowing for better customization to your budget.

Timeline differences: Treatment approaches may vary in duration, affecting total costs and convenience factors.

Package deals: Some practices offer comprehensive packages that provide better value than piecemeal treatments.

Red Flags to Avoid

While seeking affordable smile makeover options, certain warning signs indicate practices that may compromise quality or patient safety to reduce costs.

Unusually low prices: Prices significantly below market rates may indicate corners being cut on materials, laboratory work, or proper protocols.

High-pressure sales tactics: Reputable practices allow patients time to consider treatment options without aggressive sales pressure or limited-time offers.

Lack of proper credentials: Ensure your chosen dentist is properly licensed and has relevant training in cosmetic procedures.

No treatment guarantees: Established practices typically offer some form of guarantee or warranty on their cosmetic work.

MAXIMIZING VALUE IN YOUR SMILE MAKEOVER

Getting the best value from your smile makeover investment requires strategic planning, informed decision-making, and understanding how to optimize both costs and outcomes.

Timing Your Treatment Strategically

Strategic timing can help reduce costs and improve convenience for smile makeover treatments. Several factors influence optimal treatment scheduling.

End-of-year promotions: Many practices offer discounts in November and December to boost year-end revenue and help patients use insurance benefits before they expire.

Off-peak scheduling: Booking appointments during slower periods may provide access to better pricing or priority scheduling.

Insurance benefit timing: Plan treatments to maximize annual insurance benefits, potentially spreading larger treatments across two benefit years.

Life event planning: Schedule treatments well before important events like weddings or job interviews to allow for healing and any necessary adjustments.

Prioritizing Treatments for Maximum Impact

When budget constraints require phasing treatments over time, prioritizing procedures that provide maximum aesthetic impact helps you achieve meaningful results within your available resources.

Focus on the smile zone: Treating the 6-8 front teeth visible when you smile provides the most noticeable improvement for your investment.

Address major issues first: Correcting significant problems like severely discolored or crooked teeth creates more dramatic improvements than minor refinements.

Foundation before cosmetics: Ensure underlying health issues are addressed before cosmetic enhancements to protect your investment.

Combine complementary procedures: Grouping related treatments can reduce overall costs and minimize appointment requirements.

Maintaining Your Investment

Proper maintenance extends the life of your smile makeover and protects your financial investment. Following recommended care protocols prevents premature failures and reduces long-term costs.

Excellent oral hygiene: Regular brushing, flossing, and professional cleanings preserve both natural teeth and cosmetic work.

Protective appliances: Night guards protect veneers and crowns from grinding damage, while sports guards prevent injury during activities.

Lifestyle modifications: Avoiding habits like nail biting, ice chewing, or using teeth as tools prevents damage to cosmetic restorations.

Regular checkups: Routine dental visits allow early detection and correction of minor issues before they become expensive problems.

Non-surgical facelift options without Invasive Surgery

When people hear the term “facelift,” their minds often jump to scalpels, stitches, and long recovery times. But today, advancements in cosmetic dentistry offer a revolutionary alternative—non-surgical facelift options that rejuvenate your appearance by improving your smile, bite, and overall oral structure. These transformations don’t require surgery or downtime and can often be completed in just a few visits.

The face is supported in large part by your teeth and bite. As we age, tooth wear, bone loss, and bite collapse can make the lower third of the face appear sunken, wrinkled, or saggy. This often leads to jowling, deep lines around the mouth, and a prematurely aged look. Instead of targeting these changes with invasive facial procedures, cosmetic dentists can rebuild the foundation: your smile.

Cosmetic dentistry-based facial rejuvenation focuses on restoring the vertical dimension of your face—essentially re-establishing height in areas where teeth have worn down or shifted. Procedures like porcelain veneers, dental crowns, bonding, and full mouth reconstruction can realign your bite, support facial muscles, and give your face a lifted, more youthful appearance—naturally.

One of the key benefits of these non-surgical options is that they not only enhance your appearance but also restore oral health and function. Improving your bite can reduce jaw pain, eliminate tension headaches, and improve speech and chewing ability. That means you’re not just getting a younger look—you’re improving your quality of life.

Patients are often amazed at the subtle yet powerful difference a smile makeover can make. By lengthening worn teeth, correcting asymmetry, and rebalancing the bite, the lower half of the face becomes fuller, lips regain their natural support, and the jawline appears more defined. Fine lines and folds around the mouth also soften, mimicking the effect of a traditional facelift—but without a single incision.

Cosmetic dentistry also addresses a range of aesthetic concerns simultaneously. Discoloration, chipped teeth, and uneven spacing can all be corrected while working toward a more youthful facial contour. Many patients find that these enhancements provide a boost in confidence, helping them smile more often—which in itself is one of the most powerful anti-aging tools.

What makes this option especially attractive is its non-invasive nature. There’s no general anesthesia, no stitches, and no lengthy recovery period. For many, it’s a safe, effective, and discreet alternative to traditional cosmetic surgery.

This approach is particularly well-suited for patients who are not ready—or not willing—to pursue surgical options, but still want to look refreshed, vibrant, and more like their younger selves. It’s also ideal for those who want a more natural-looking result without the telltale signs of surgery.

In the hands of an experienced cosmetic dentist, non-surgical facial rejuvenation through smile design is not only possible—it’s life-changing.

Stunned by the dental secrets that may cause you to reconsider fillers

If you’ve considered getting injectables, a visit to your dentist first might change your mind. From ‘dental face lifts’ to the one treatment that improves everyone’s appearance, here’s why putting teeth first could pay off.

How do teeth help to improve the appearance of your lips, skin, and face in the same way that fillers, injectables, and other aesthetic treatments do?

The teeth and jaw serve as the ‘frame’ or scaffolding of our faces. You can look at someone’s upper half of the face and not necessarily tell how old they are, but the lower third of the face can be the most telling of age. As a result, dentistry and aesthetic dermatology work best when approached holistically – you may believe that you “need” fillers, but dental treatment may be more appropriate, effective, and produce the most natural-looking result.”

Clearly, cosmetic dental treatments can be as expensive and time-consuming as aesthetic treatments, but according to experts, turning to your dentist before an aesthetic specialist or surgeon can not only help you achieve the kind of lift and plumpness that cosmetic facial procedures promise, but the end-result can also be more long-lasting and subtle, and even help to preserve the health of your teeth. Here are a few dental adjustments and treatments that can make a significant difference in addressing visible signs of ageing.

Everyone should think about one treatment

If I were to suggest one dental treatment to lift the face it would be braces. This may sound old-fashioned but hear me out. Just as our collagen levels deplete in our skin as we get older, so our teeth begin to collapse inwards, which ‘shrinks’ our mouth and results in a loss of volume in the lower face.

Braces are fantastic for addressing this by widening the smile while also straightening teeth, adding structure and support to your mouth, and reducing the appearance of sagging. Another benefit is that the results are permanent.”

If you’re worried about looking like ‘Ugly Betty’ while wearing braces, don’t be; dental technology has advanced by leaps and bounds. Invisalign invisible braces are now among the most popular treatments in my practise because they are unobtrusive and barely noticeable to others while achieving impressive results over time.”

If you don’t want to bother with braces or Invisalign, Porcelain Veneer will do the trick.

What causes a face to appear youthful?

A youthful face is full of collagen, giving the skin a smooth, hydrated appearance.

However, it is not only the quality of the skin that is important; what is beneath the skin, the supporting scaffolding, is also important.

Jaw bones are one of the most common parts of your facial skeleton to change over time. When you lose many of your back teeth, your jaw bone gradually shrinks, giving you an aged, ‘squashed’ appearance.

The cheeks recede inwards, the lips constrict, and the chin becomes more prominent.

What has actually happened is that the distance between the bottom of the nose and the bottom of the chin has been reduced, causing your facial balance to be thrown off.

Teeth do not have to be completely missing to give an aged appearance. Teeth that have been worn down by grinding or that have been severely dissolved away due to acid erosion cannot properly support the cheeks or lips.

Some people don’t notice these changes because they happen gradually, while others’ self-esteem suffers as a result.

Your Mouth Influences Your Facial Appearance

Your mouth is an important feature of your facial appearance not only because your smile is one of the first things people notice about you, but also because it serves as the foundation for your facial appearance. Your teeth, skull, and jaw all grow together when your facial appearance is first developing.

They should ideally form a harmonious structure that gives you the best facial appearance. However, as you get older, your teeth can become worn, lost, or shift out of place. Not only will your smile change, but so will your facial shape and proportion.

The misnomer of being “long in the tooth”

Long in the tooth is idiomatically associated with old age, but in dental terms, the opposite is true.

Longer teeth appear more youthful – apparently, 11mm is the’sweet spot,’ but it all depends on the natural shape and size of your teeth, as well as your bone structure. Aesthetic treatments such as veneers and bonding can be used to artificially lengthen teeth, and teeth whitening can also be very effective in making teeth appear longer and more pronounced in the face. Because the skin between your nose and top lip descends with age due to collagen loss, it’s common to be unable to see your top teeth when you talk or smile; therefore, lengthening the teeth and making top teeth more visible helps to reverse this somewhat.

It is not only your front teeth that can become less visible as you age. Back teeth can move inwards over time, and many people have a narrow arch shape. When we look at the smile from the front, there is a “black corridor” because the back teeth are not visible. You can widen the smile by reshaping the arch with straightening or veneers, which then supports the cheeks and gives a much fuller smile.

We dubs treatments such as this as ‘the dental facelift’, as straightening teeth can help to support the cheeks and deliver an overall lifting effect that never looks ‘fake’. Straightening procedures can take over a year to complete in complex cases and cost thousands of dollars, and while the effects of teeth whitening can be immediate, it’s critical to seek treatment from an experienced, highly trained, and licenced dental professional.

Gums in their youth

Just as bonding and veneers can give the appearance of’more teeth,”more gums’ give the appearance of a healthier, younger-looking mouth.

Keeping our gums strong and healthy as we age is critical because our gums hold our teeth in place and prevent bacteria from growing in our mouth, all of which contributes to the cosmetic impact of teeth. Our gums shrink as we age, so some recession is normal, and some people are genetically predisposed to gum recession, but there are things you can do to slow down the process and even stop gum shrinkage.

To thoroughly clean teeth and avoid some of the scrubbing that can occur with manual brushing, I recommend using an electric toothbrush. Make certain that your technique is efficient and gentle. It’s also critical not to overbrush – you don’t have to brush your teeth after every meal (twice a day is ideal). Consider it like skincare: if you scrub your face too hard and wash it too frequently, it will become dry and more prone to damage and fine lines. In terms of gum recession, the same is true for teeth. For skin, a morning wash followed by a double cleanse at the end of the day will suffice, and brushing twice a day is ideal for maintaining optimal tooth and gum health. Flossing once a day is also essential for maintaining ‘young gums.

Why porcelain veneers are superior to fillers and facelifts

In 2016, over 130,000 facelifts were performed, a 4% increase over 2015. Facelifts are procedures used to improve the appearance of the face and neck by reducing sagging, drooping, and wrinkling. Simply put, people want a younger-looking face. According to a CNN report on the ASPS statistics, fewer patients are requesting procedures to remove excess skin. Patients prefer something that uses fillers to plump up their skin.

Did you know that porcelain veneers can enhance a person’s lips? While veneers and Lumineers are as thin as contact lenses (though far more durable), they are meticulously placed on top of a patient’s natural teeth and bonded in place to create a stunning cosmetic dentistry enhancement. By default, this procedure causes lips to plump out slightly. While the pout may not be as dramatic as Kim Kardashian’s, it will be far more natural and last longer. Fillers must be refreshed over time, unlike porcelain veneers, which can last for decades if properly cared for.

Replace missing teeth to give yourself a more youthful appearance

Have you ever noticed celebrities who have had botched facelifts or overdosed on fillers? You have, of course. You probably know Priscilla Presley, Daryl Hannah, Mickey Rourke, and Meg Ryan off the top of your head. People sometimes overdo cosmetic procedures in an attempt to fight ageing and maintain their youthful appearance, but we believe that ageing gracefully is possible.

If your teeth are ageing you, solutions are available and, in many cases, painless. A smile makeover can completely transform your face while still leaving you looking completely natural – just a better version of yourself with no plastics involved.

For example, if you have jowls, drooping cheeks, or a compressed appearance, the first question is: Are any teeth missing? A missing tooth or teeth alters the shape of your face by changing the bulk of your jawbone and, as a result, the shape of your jawline. Missing teeth can drastically alter your appearance, making you appear much older than you are.

What is the solution? There are three in total:

  • Dental implants: Dental implants are one of the most effective methods of replacing missing teeth. They are secured in your jawbone. They remain in place indefinitely while stimulating and preserving your jawbone. Dental implants prevent your jaw from sagging due to missing teeth and roots.
  • Dentures: We understand that if you’re trying to look younger, the last thing you want to do is wear dentures and deal with adhesives. Modern dentures can be combined with dental implants for a secure and natural appearance (so you don’t feel old or have to take your teeth out every night).
  • Porcelain fixed dental bridges: Bridges close gaps by attaching a porcelain tooth to hidden clasps that are then secured to the teeth on either side (both of which sport a porcelain crown). Bridges cannot be removed once they have been installed.
A smile makeover can help you look younger.
  • If your face is beginning to show signs of ageing, use the to revitalise your appearance.

How dentistry can make your lips look fuller

If lip fillers or a lip lift appeal to you, there are dentistry alternatives that may look less ‘done’ while also improving the health of your teeth over time.

So, how do veneers compare to plumping lip treatments?

Our teeth, like our skin, thin with age, allowing our lips to move inwards. Because the lip has a supportive structure behind it, adding volume to the outer surface of the teeth allows it to lift naturally. This can result in plumper-looking lips—I’d say it can increase the appearance of fullness by 25% on average, and it looks natural, so additional lip filler may be unnecessary.  The slight elevation of the lips can also help to soften fine lines around the mouth.

That covers the potential cosmetic benefits, but veneers can provide additional benefits in terms of wear and tear:

Veneers are essentially a method of laminating the teeth, which can be especially beneficial as you get older because it protects the enamel from eroding. While enamel is the hardest substance in the human body, you cannot reverse this ageing process because your body cannot reproduce enamel, so veneers serve as a substitute for your natural enamel.

Veneers are sculpted to your teeth and can help with staining or crookedness, but any veneers you get must match the colour and shape of the rest of your teeth.

If veneers are out of your price range or are not right for you, consider composite bonding as an alternative. It is a one-step procedure in which a bonding material is painted onto teeth and hardened with a high-frequency light before being polished and smoothed. The treatment, like porcelain veneers, can address everything from tooth colour to shape, but it is less durable and more prone to chipping and staining. Composite bonding can last for up to five years.

Dental facelift

The Dental Face Lift is a non-surgical procedure that replaces entire teeth or missing enamel that has accumulated over time.
The lower face regains its youthful verticality by rebuilding the teeth to their original dimensions.

When necessary, new dentures can be made that will provide better support and upright ‘down turned’ lips.

Dental facelifts can subtly give a fresh faced look and younger looking teeth giving you something to really smile about.

How to Get a Dental Facelift Without Plastic Surgery

It may seem strange, but you can now have a dental facelift without having to undergo surgery. Some dentists today use techniques that not only improve your bite and smile but can also remove years from your appearance. Some claim that this technique is a very effective and non-surgical way to reduce the signs of ageing on the face, such as wrinkles and sagging skin. Tooth restoration is frequently included as part of a dental facelift.

To be clear, as we age, our dental structures begin to deteriorate, and if our teeth become worn or missing, our faces shrink and take on a sunken-in appearance. A dental face lift smoothes out wrinkles and gives a person’s jawline a more pronounced and even appearance. Dental treatments and dental appliances can help you look more polished and youthful. If you’re looking for a dentist who can fix my teeth, a cosmetic dentist can assist you. A tooth restoration procedure can help you look younger.

A plastic retainer is used in some dental practises to strengthen a person’s facial muscles. This procedure causes the jaw to rest in a higher position, making the patient appear younger. Patients who use this retainer wear it for several months until their facial muscles strengthen, at which point they will have dental crowns placed on all of their teeth to increase the height of their jaw.

Remember that a dental facelift is more than just cosmetic dentistry. A dental facelift not only improves the appearance of your teeth and smile, but it also improves your profile, jaw line, chin position, and face shape. Furthermore, in some cases, it can improve your health, especially if your teeth are not in proper alignment and it affects your chewing and eating.

What exactly is a nonsurgical facelift?

If you are dissatisfied with your sagging facial tissues, you may be considering facelift surgery. Surgical facelifts can help you look younger by cutting, stretching, and repositioning your facial tissues. The issue with facelift surgery is that your facial tissues are simply reacting to changes in your mouth and jaw, which help shape your face.

A non-surgical facelift from a dentist is often the best way to rejuvenate your appearance by restoring those underlying structures so that your teeth and bones are back in the position they once occupied. We can help you achieve a more youthful facial appearance by restoring a more youthful dental structure with Cosmetic & Comprehensive Dentistry.  This is described in detail below, but the best way to learn if it is right for you is to get an evaluation by a dentist.

Is a Non-Surgical Facelift Right for Me?

Non-surgical facelift dental services concentrate on restoring your smile so that sunken or hollow areas can be corrected naturally rather than by pulling or cutting the skin with a surgical facelift. Missing teeth, teeth that have worn down over time, TMJ issues, uncorrected bite issues, and other issues can be addressed. It’s incredible how the underlying jaw structure, once aligned and supported by full teeth and prostheses, can naturally restore fullness to the face.

What Are the Advantages of Non-Surgical Facelifting?

A surgical facelift is frequently used to correct sunken cheeks, depressed areas around the mouth, hanging jowls, and other signs of ageing. However, surgical facelifts necessitate a lengthy recovery period as well as the risks associated with major invasive surgery. Furthermore, we’ve all seen cases of botched surgical facelifts, in which the patient’s face appears stretched and taut.

What if you could achieve many of the same facial rejuvenation benefits by using dental techniques like crown placement, replacing lost teeth with implants or bridges, adjusting misaligned jaws, or straightening teeth? This is what a non-surgical facelift can accomplish.

  • Many wrinkles and sunken areas disappear when teeth are restored because they have support behind them in the dental structure.
Teeth restoration helps to lengthen the face, making it less round and flattened.
The jawline is enhanced when the jaw is properly positioned. This can be used to correct a “weak” chin caused by an overbite or an underbite. All of this is possible by restoring various aspects of your dental health and structure. Isn’t that a more natural way to achieve a younger-looking face?

How Non-Surgical Facelifts Function

Non-surgical facelifts improve your facial appearance by restoring your teeth and mouth to their former state. When you lose teeth, your face shortens and becomes more flattened and round. Sunken cheeks and lips are possible. Typical dentures may not be much help because they do not stay in place to fill the role that your missing teeth played. Dentures that are properly fitted, on the other hand, can restore your facial appearance.

Even if you haven’t lost any teeth, chipped, cracked, or crooked teeth can cause your jaw to shift. An injury or a concussive jolt can also cause your jaw to move out of place. Poorly positioned jaws can give the appearance of a receding chin(which can make your nose look large) or crooked jaw.

How does a non-surgical facelift work?

Depending on the patient, these can be a variety of treatments. Your facial structure and oral structure are inextricably linked. As a result, problems like a misaligned jaw or worn teeth can have an effect on your facial appearance, making you appear older.

During your consultation or treatment, we will examine you to determine what issues are causing problems. There may be several treatment options. These are some of the options.

Is it painful to have a non-surgical facelift?

These procedures are not painful because of modern local anaesthesia. There may be some soreness afterwards, but it is easily managed with over-the-counter pain medication.

Are Non-Surgical Facelifts Risky?

These are dental procedures that have been done thousands of times over the years. They are secure. Common dental procedures include crown placement and dental implant placement. When compared to the risks associated with a surgical facelift, which include everything from a reaction to general anaesthesia to poor wound healing, there is no comparison to the natural results provided by a non-surgical dental facelift.

How long does it take to recover from a non-surgical facelift?

It is not difficult to recover from these cosmetic dentistry procedures, TMJ treatment, possible orthodontics, and other treatments associated with a non-surgical facelift. Most procedures leave little to no pain behind. They do not require any downtime.

Is non-surgical facelifting covered by insurance?

Some of these treatments may be covered by your dental insurance, while others may not. It depends on whether your insurance company considers the procedure cosmetic rather than structural or necessary. We work with your insurance company to ensure that you have the most coverage possible.

Smile Rejuvenation Advantages for a Non-surgical Dental Facelift

Facelift surgery does not improve your facial proportions. Instead, plastic surgeons will treat you as if you have “excess” skin on your face. They trim away the excess and stretch your skin until it fits snugly over your shortened bones and teeth. This can significantly alter your facial appearance, and you may no longer resemble yourself. However, by restoring your natural proportions with your teeth, we can rejuvenate your face. You’ll look like yourself, only younger.

In addition, you can avoid problems related to surgical facelifts, such as:

  • Pain
  • Bleeding
  • Bruising
  • Scarring
  • Long recovery time
  • Missed work
  • Surgical complications

You can rejuvenate your facial appearance with a smile makeover without any of these issues or risks. While a facelift may require up to a month of recovery, your smile makeover will only require you to miss one day of work.

You’ll also have a bright, beautiful smile again, which will make you appear younger.

A veneer is a facing glued to a surface of a tooth to improve its appearance or to repair a fractured, worn down or severely filled tooth.

Veneers can be used to cover stained teeth, fill in crevices and gaps, and enhance the appearance of crooked teeth.

The majority of people are familiar with porcelain veneers, which are surfaces made of porcelain or ceramic.

This implies that in order for the dental ceramist to create the porcelain veneers to fit correctly, your natural teeth must typically (but not always) undergo some kind of preparation.

Composite veneers are a type of facing constructed of resin that is tooth-coloured. They can be made similarly to porcelain veneers by a dental technician using impressions or moulds of your teeth.

However, unlike porcelain veneers, composite veneers can also be created by the dentist right in the dental chair, making them a speedier and more affordable solution to enhance your smile.

What are Composite Veneers?

Composite veneers are custom made from a composite resin that is applied to the surface of the tooth and moulded to the desired shape and finish. They can be used to improve the appearance of natural teeth that have damage, discolouration, are irregularly shaped, improperly aligned and can also fix minor chips or cracks in the teeth.

Are Composite Veneers The Same As Bonding?

The material used for composite veneers and bonding is the same which is the composite resin. The only difference about them is how they are applied to your tooth. Bonding normally covers a part of your tooth whilst composite veneer covers the entire surface of your tooth. Both of these are used to improve the aesthetic of your tooth.

Cosmetic applications for Composite Veneers materials

Cosmetic tooth bonding – Dental bonding can be used to create cosmetic enhancements for teeth.

1) Dental Veneers Veneering of dental bonding over the front side of teeth that have become stained or discoloured as a way of enhancing their cosmetic appearance.

2) Closing a dental gap (diastema). Tooth bonding can be used to fill in gaps that lie between a person’s teeth. When this technique is employed, dental composite is bonded onto the sides of the two teeth that lie on either side of the gap, so to widen each tooth slightly. The net effect is that the space between the two teeth is narrowed, or even filled in completely.

3) Correcting minor cosmetic imperfections. Minor to moderate cosmetic imperfections of chipped, disfigured, or misaligned teeth can be masked or corrected by placing dental bonding.

Cosmetic Issues that Composite veneers can Address

It can be used as a cosmetic solution to chipped teeth, gapped teeth and staining in both teeth and filling among other cosmetic imperfections. See photos below of our works showing cosmetic possibilities with Dental Bonding.

Composite Bonding, Composite Veneers & Porcelain Veneers – What’s the difference?

Between instagram transformations and celebrity before and after’s, it’s easy to see why certain treatments are at the top of everybody’s wish lists nowadays. But, do you really know what the difference is between composite bonding, composite veneers and porcelain veneers? Because in terms of cost, treatment time and materials used – they’re actually quite different!

Procedures for Composite Veneers?

Composite veneers are custom made from a composite resin that is applied to the surface of the tooth and moulded to the desired shape and finish. They can be used to improve the appearance of natural teeth that have damage, discolouration, are irregularly shaped, improperly aligned and can also fix minor chips or cracks in the teeth.

What’s involved?

The composite is applied directly to the front surface of the teeth and moulded to the required shape and size before being set and bonded to the teeth. The veneers are then finely shaped and polished to achieve the desired appearance. It is relatively straightforward to reshape composite veneers either by adding or removing composite, either at the initial appointment or any follow-up appointments if desired.

Pros and cons:

  • Composite veneers are able to fill and shape teeth in a single visit.
  • It’s a minimally invasive treatment and requires minimal prep work on your natural teeth, meaning that they are not permanently altered.
  • The results produced look very natural and blend in well with tooth colour.
  • They do require more upkeep than Porcelain Veneers, they usually need redoing around every 4-6 years but potentially a lot longer if looked after.

What’s the difference between composite veneers and composite bonding?

In terms of the material they are both the same.  However, composite veneers cover the entire surface of the tooth, whilst composite bonding normally covers part of the tooth.

Composite bonding is usually reserved for situations where small chips or repairs are required. Subtle changes to the tooth shape and length can also be made. Composite veneers on the other hand, work by covering the complete front surface of the tooth structure enabling larger changes in tooth shape and form to take place. Usually 4-6 composite veneers are done to the front teeth to give the same day smile makeover.

Either of the two are great options if you are looking for fast, minimally invasive way to get the perfect smile.

Am I suited to Composite Veneers?

Your suitability for composite bonding will depend on many factors, such as the position and colour of your teeth, but also what you would like your final smile to look like. Generally, your teeth will need to be in good condition with enough tooth enamel to bond the composite onto.

Composite bonding is primarily for patients who wish to improve the appearance of their smile, but don’t want to go through substantial restorative procedures such as placing veneers or crowns. Your dentist will assess your gums, teeth and bite to ensure composite bonding is suitable for you. This is why the initial consultation is so important in making a proper assessment and treatment plan

What to expect from Composite Veneers

The actual bonding procedure is relatively quick. As a fine artist and passionate in Cosmetic dentistry procedures, Dr. Castro takes the time to carefully select a shade of composite resin that perfectly matches your natural tooth colour. This ensures that the cosmetic bonding work is seamless and undetectable to the naked eye. She then roughens the surface of the tooth with a special tool, coats the tooth in a conditioning liquid, and applies the Composite resin,putty-like resin material, allowing her to perfectly fill chips or cracks with high precision. Finally, ultraviolet or laser light is applied to harden the composite resin and complete the bonding. You will sit up from the dental chair with a whole new smile.

What are the benefits of Composite Veneers over other treatments?

  • Less preparation: composite bonding requires less tooth preparation before treatment, as opposed to the longer preparation needed for procedures such as crowns. This means you spend less time in the dental chair, and need to take less time out of your schedule to visit the clinic.
  • Fast and effective: composite bonding can often be completed within a single visit, especially in simpler cases. It restores teeth to their natural appearance instantly, and patients leave the chair with a new smile!
  • Cost effective: composite bonding is considerably less expensive than ceramic restorations such as veneers and crowns, and insurance may cover some of the cost of the procedure. It is also easier and cheaper to repair bonding compared to other restorations, therefore making it easier to maintain. This also saves money in the long-term and makes composite bonding a very worthwhile option at all budgets.
  • Easily adjustable: composite bonding is relatively easy to adjust and re-shape, depending on your preferences or clinical needs.
  • Appearance: The bonding material is identical to the colour of natural teeth, so this treatment enables us to give you the most natural and real smile possible.

How do I know whether veneers or bonding is the right choice for me?

Every case of cosmetic dentistry is different and dependent on the extent of improvements that the patient would like to make. If you only have a few smaller imperfections that you would like to rectify, then dental bonding may be the best choice for you. Alternatively, if you are looking for a more comprehensive transformation of your smile, then dental veneers may provide the results that you are looking for.

If you are unsure which is right for you, or would like more information on either option, we highly recommend that you make an appointment with your dentist who will be able to assess the health and quality of your smile and make the right recommendation based on your personal circumstances.

When to use Composite Veneers? When to use Porcelain Veneers?

Both ceramic and composite materials are highly aesthetic and are designed to mimic the look of natural teeth. When placed well and highly polished it can sometimes be difficult to see the difference between filling and tooth!

Composite  Veneers

Composite resin materials when placed on a tooth that is not receiving heavy load and not replacing a highly functional portion of the tooth; such as a tooth cusp, the filling can last for a long time from 3-8 years.

Composite resins are relatively straightforward to place, they take a relatively short period of time to place and can be completed in a single visit however making sure the tooth is clean and dry is essential for “bonding” the material to the tooth which does rely on the dentist’s skill. Composite resins are less brittle than ceramics but have greater wear at the edges so may not last as long as a bonded ceramic restoration. Composite resins are used when restoring teeth with minimal biting forces and can also be used as intermediate restorations when planning full mouth restorative cases.

Porcelain Veneers

Ceramics can be used on their own to create a restoration for a tooth either as an inlay, onlay, full crown or veneer or as a hybrid type crown (metal inner layer with porcelain/ceramic exterior). Ceramics have high aesthetics and can be bonded to the tooth to restore looks and function.

When placed adequately, ceramic restorations can last 15+ years, However when looking at composite vs ceramic, composite resins they are more brittle, with increased thickness there is increased brittleness and higher chance of cracks and chips, this is often mediated by carefully designing the ceramic in a laboratory and if concerned about brittleness, they can be bonded to an internal layer of metal to provide extra support for the ceramic (hybrid type crown).

One difference between ceramic and composite materials is that ceramics have better wear resistance, mechanical properties and have less stress on the surrounding tooth at the restoration-tooth margin. Ceramics are ideal for inlays, cusp coverage restoration such as crowns and onlays, and as highly aesthetic veneers. Ceramics are often used in smile makeover cases!

When to use Porcelain Veneers?

  • Very high aesthetics, such as veneers or anterior crowns
  • Heavily broken-down teeth.
  • Closing the gap between two teeth, designed in the lab to precisely make an ideal contact point and prevent food packing.
  • Restoring multiple teeth in a row to precisely design how the teeth bite together.
  • Full mouth rehabilitation cases combining hybrid type crowns with ceramic/porcelain veneers.

As always, the long-term prognosis of any restoration also heavily relies heavily on the environment of the mouth it is placed in. The best way to help a filling or ceramic restoration last a very long time is impeccable oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups.

Will a Composite Veneers procedure be uncomfortable or painful?

Not at all. Bonding is a non-invasive procedure and one of the most comfortable restorations you can receive. In order to complete the restoration or to make cosmetic improvements, all we need to do is roughen the tooth slightly and apply a conditioning liquid. Next, we will apply the resin material that matches the shade of your teeth. We will shape the material to match the tooth size as well, before hardening it in place. Since your tooth structure remains intact, you will be comfortable during the procedure. In fact, most people do not need any anaesthesia or pain medication for the bonding procedure.

Will there be pain after Composite Veneers treatment?

Pain should be minimal after composite veneer treatment or none at all.

The preparation and bonding process requires strict control over the surrounding gum tissue. They are lightly pushed out of the way during the procedure, and some people can have mild discomfort in this area for a day or two after treatment.

Rarely, the bite can be left a little too heavy on a tooth after bonding leading to slight tenderness in that tooth. Again, this will be easily and quickly resolved with a quick bite adjustment as required.

Care of Bonded Teeth

Because bonding material can chip, it is important to avoid such habits as biting fingernails, chewing on pens, ice or other hard food objects, or using your bonded teeth to tear things open. If you do notice any sharp edges on a bonded tooth or if your tooth feels odd when you bite down, call your dentist.

Otherwise, bonded teeth don’t need special care. Simply follow good oral hygiene practices.

  • Brush your teeth at least twice a day.
  • Floss at least once a day.
  • Rinse with an antiseptic mouthwash once or twice a day.
  • See your dentist for regular professional checkups and cleanings.

Tips in order to increase the lifespan of Composite Veneers

  • In order to increase the lifespan of dental bonding, it would be wise to keep the following tips in mind: Decrease the intake of coffee. Highly coloured drinks and food to a minimum as they will stain your dental bonding. Be mindful of what you eat and live a healthy lifestyle.
  • Quit smoking as it is bad for the lungs too. There is no point in adopting a habit, which is putting your health in danger.
  • Do not chew too hard on things like raw carrot, pencil, ice chips. It is not wise to bite on nails. There is a possibility of chipping of teeth.
  • Get regular dental checkups and make sure everything is smooth and fine. If you feel something is wrong or if there are any sharp edges let the dentist deal with the issue.
  • It is extremely important to choose the dentist wisely for this kind of procedure as it would require skill from the dentist. If necessary, you can ask the dentist for the before and after photos of their previous patients.
  • Always remember that feeling good is extremely important. If you feel good from within you will smile from outside. Despite the fact, dental bonding or any other procedure can give relevant self-esteem, it would be important to have a content heart.
